About The Role
We are looking for an exceptional talent to join our team. You will play a key role in providing primary oversight of all financial reporting to FA’s membership. You are a confident and intellectually curious person who thrives on uncovering insights hidden in data and translate findings into business interpretations.
In this role you will manage a team of Financial and Actuarial Analysts that models and forecasts premium, claims, and expenses for Facility Association Residual Market (FARM), Risk Sharing Pools (RSPs), and Uninsured Automobile Funds (UAF). Your team will prepare monthly external and internal financial reporting and operate related controls and communicate key metrics and narratives about the performance and trajectory of FA’s pools.
Key Activities:
- Manages monthly financial reporting of FA’s insurance contract liabilities and operating results to FA members.
- Oversees the preparation and analysis of data and assumptions used in financial forecasting (exposures, premium, loss ratios, expenses, and cash flows).
- Creates and maintains documentation and risk controls applicable to the FP&A and monthly financial reporting process.
- Manages the evaluation, development and coaching of team members to achieve FA’s strategic objectives.
- Manages the team’s activities by organizing and planning the team schedule and project plans.
- Develops new exhibits, reports, and data visualizations to bring clarity and insight to management and members about FA’s performance and trends.
- Develops and implements new IFRS 17 based performance metrics and socializes these metrics with FA and FA’s members.
- Gives presentations to member committees, internal stakeholders, regulatory and industry presentations on FA’s projections and data trends.
- Collaborates with the finance team to develop an integrated data environment for storing and efficiently sharing FA’s financial data.
- Acts as a representative of the FP&A team in various working groups/committees and acts as a point of contact with other business units.
Experience and Qualifications:
- University or college degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, statistics, or a related field.
- ACAS/ACIA designation; FCAS/FCIA designation is a significant asset.
- At least five (5) years of experience in Property & Casualty insurance related to reserving, valuation, pricing, finance, capital modeling, and/or data science.
- Audit experience is a definite asset, as is experience working as a team member or leader on technology or business system transformation projects.
- Strong skills and knowledge of actuarial techniques and financial reporting/accounting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences (peers, direct reports, executive management, and external stakeholders) and to ensure priorities are understood.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint), Tableau or similar business intelligence tools, and at least one programming language (e.g., SQL, SAS, VBA, Python, R)
- History of developing strategic working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to lead others in accordance with the organization’s vision and values; fosters engagement in assigned projects and tasks.
